It’s May! And we are excited to share what’s new.
Happy Public Service Recognition Week

NxtGov is happy to support Public Service Recognition Week May 7th – 11th!

Being a public servant is no small task. One of the main reasons why NxtGov exists is to bring pride into public service! There is no better way to do this than to celebrate our work and recognize public servants!

There will be appreciation events with speakers, entertainment and more in Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno and Sacramento!

The Sacramento event will be May 10th at 11:30am in the North steps of the Capitol.

We hope you join us in celebrating public service throughout the week by:

  • Attending the Sacramento Appreciation event May 10th
  • Sharing your public service story on social media and tag #PSRWCA and #PSRW
  • Support and share our social media posts throughout the week. One of our own NxtGov Ambassadors will be featured in them 😉

Innovation Playbook for Government Change Agents
Scholarship and New Dates

Program Date Change!

Are you a California state employee with a desire to be a change agent in government? Consider registering for the California Innovation Playbook for Government Change Agents (Cal-IPGCA) 2018 Series.

A scholarship will be available for one NxtGov member!

From August 9 – December 6, 2018, Cal-IPGCA provides a unique leadership training opportunity that includes an innovation laboratory. It occurs in both a classroom and work-based environment, with both full-time and part-time training opportunities for employees at any organizational level.

Innovation teams develop Moonshot Projects through a sequenced 8-Step Path, from Innovation Priorities (IPs) that reflect State of California enterprise-wide challenges.

NxtGov is pleased to support this one of a kind opportunity. Our NxtGov Ambassadors developed one of the Innovation Priorities for the innovation trainees to work on during this Cal-IPGCA cohort so that the concerns of NxtGov members can be represented at this high profile program.

We are grateful to have Cal-IPGCA offer a scholarship to a NxtGov member! Simply indicate you are a member of NxtGov on the registration form and you’ll be considered for the scholarship.

Franchise Tax Board ARM Leadership Day

Members of the NxtGov E-Board were happy to represent our organization at a leadership panel moderated by GovOps Secretary Batjer on May 2nd at the Franchise Tax Board. We had the opportunity to inspire leaders from multiple levels to join our NxtGov movement!

Their leadership values resonate with our own. We were grateful to be part of an event that is developing leaders who embody the MOVERS perspective.

  • Motivate
  • Be Open Minded
  • Have Vision
  • Engage
  • Rise
  • Serve

We look forward to exploring collaborative opportunities with the attendees and commend them on their commitment to be great state leaders!

New Bicycle Commuter Program Policy

Good news! Effective May 1, 2018, the State of California will voluntarily provide a taxable Bicycle Commuter Program (Program) benefit to eligible state employees. The Program encourages employees to consider bicycle commuting as a means of active transportation.

The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) will administer this Program to:

  • Promote health and wellness, and sustainable commuting practices.
  • Defray some of the costs a bicycle commuter may incur.

Active state employees who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in CalHR’s Online Human Resources Manual – Bicycle Commuter Program Policy may submit claims to receive $20 for each calendar month in which they commute a substantial portion (at least 50 percent of the days they are scheduled to work in a calendar month) by bicycle, up to a maximum of $240 per calendar year.
